Editor,
I
am a Tongan, born and raise in the Island but I am in the US right now
going to school, am 22 years old and I believe in equally
likely to have the fair opportunity to rise to the full potential
of individuals. I was born in Tongatapu and I grew
up in the Island with the ideas and prides and mateaki'i
fonua, and in other words, blinded to the false
tradition of my fathers. Don't get me wrong,
there are great advantages of me growing up
in the Island, not only it teach my to be humble but I learn and train
my hands to work hard, and I am proud to be a Tongan and always will
be. From a young single adult point of view concerning the
beating up of the prisoners from the riot especially the
youths. That it pure abuse, taking advantage, and unfair
treatment. It is clear and no one can hide the fact
that they have done damage to our lovely Nuku'alofa
town, but you know what I realize from the videos of
the riots. I realize that the police were just
standing there and watch the people, they didn't really act strong in
stopping them, but what happen now when they put some of my brothers in
a little room, locked doors, may be a voice
won't be heard from outside and they beat the living
light out of them. I mean, please help me understand because
I am 22 years old, how is that going to make
a DIFFERENCE in the life of the
individuals. Psycologically, discipline by force
always follow by rebellion, teaching the person to do
things out of fear not knowing that is the right is NOT GOOD, and it is
just pure manipulation. Where is the right, where is the
truth. I don't hear any voice of a youth or young single
adult about what happen, about the riot, about what they think of the
government, of politics, of leaderships. And I want to say
this as a citizen of Tonga, They have no voice because they are bound
by the idea that only the big people can talk, only the hou'eiki can
talk. And in the home, it is very clear what we call a one
way command, top to bottom,,,, there is no bottom to top.. Leading out
of command, not communicating and understanding, a lot do out of pride
and ignorance, selfish intention and desire. That is the
effect of the kind of system that we are in. The system is
corrupted, and this is coming from a 22 years old, our system is
corrupted. I grew up in the Island and I see the system with
my own eyes, feel is, struggle through it and hate it with
everything. And what I mean by system is the three levels,
King, Nobles, Normal People. The lower level are
accountable to the upper level.. Why can't we all just
be accountable to GOD. The leaders of our
beloved country are more accountable to the King than the
people and the country. It will be trace
back to the way we do things, is just out
of fear but not knowing with
full confidence that it is the right thing to
do. The Prime Minister and the Ministers
are more accountable to the King than the people and the
country. This is anti Christ, it is
idolatry,,,, ko fe ki'i fonua na'e tuku ki langi ?
WHERE
IS THE LOVE??? It is time to make some changes and I have a right to
say this because, Tonga will be my future and I don't want a
future that will still keep me in the dark, being
manipulated, and bound by the tradition and ideas that I can
only rise to a certain level due to the limitation of who I am
as a TU'A, me'avale, and just a normal human beings. I don't
want to turned away because I have no Noble blood on me, I believe
God gives everyone the same ability to rich their highest
potential, and our current monarch system stop what god has
given. I am confident to say that I am speaking for
a lot of youths and young single adults and new
married couples. TONGA NEED CHANGES,,,, the monarch
system is not for the society of the new millennium, We want to see
some changes in the law of the land that mostly protect the
Kings house and the Nobles but destroy the life
of poor Tongans, manipulate and left them in the dark, and put
limitation to their freedom... I want a future that free and peaceful..
Free to succeed in anything I do concerning work and deed at the same
time keep the law of the land. I want leaders that are
active, responsible, honest, loving, and not prideful and arrogance, a
leader that have visions of the future for the people and
country. So I personally support the NCHR or the
Human Rights committee... I want freedom, freedom of
speech and freedom of action, and I mean inside the laws and
boundaries. In short, I can go on forever pouring
out my soul, but to get my point
across hoping that the LE'O 'O E FANAU(voice of the
children) can be heard - I am concerned for
my future in the Island of Tonga, I don't know if I want to go back, I
am concern for the future of my brothers and sisters in the
Island. When are we going to be free from bondage to
the Kings and the Nobles.... I don't but I hope and pray
that their will be changes.
FAKA'APA'APA
ATU,
LE'O
'O E FANAU. (Hawaii)
