On 8 December 2006 a Royal New Zealand Airforce aircraft flew over Home Reef, Tonga. Named “Home Island”, Volcnews received the following report from the RNZAF.

 

“Home Island located in position 18 59.4S 174 45.4W. Island is a circular shape of 450m diameter vertical extent up to 240 feet. Venting was observed from crater with associated sulphur smell noticed by crew. Sediment was also clouding surrounding waters."
