FOREIGN MEDIA CORRESPONDENTS & COCERAGE TEAMS IN THE KINGDOM ;
The Australian & New Zealand High Commissioners did hold a joint-reception on Monday night at the NZ High Commission Residence for the foreign media teams & ANZAC election officials invited by the Tongan authorities to cover the coming elections. The observer teams and the media will be sent to all the electoral districts in Tonga.
It is noted that amongst the top Australasian media representatives are Richard Pamatatau from Auckland and Sean Dorney from Australia amongst the leading journalists from the region.
Because of the international attention & the strive for fairness & transparency, Mr Pita Vuki, the Supervisor of Elections & his hard-working staff are working really hard from their office at Tupoulahi Rd, Fasi-moe-afi. The polling papers & equipment have been sent-off to all Electoral Districts in Tonga over the past 3 weeks.
Recent NZ-conducted polls in Tonga have identified the names to watch as the current front-runners to include : S.A. Pohiva, 'Isileli Pulu, Clive Edwards, Semisi Sika, Viliami Tangi, 'Alisi Taumoepeau, Semisi Tapueluelu, 'Uliti Uata, Gary Lavaki, Dr Taniela Palu, Dr Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa, 'Aisake Eke, Dr Sitiveni Halapua, Sione Tupouniua, Faka'osi Maama, Sunia Fili, Feinga 'Iloa, Peauafi Haukinima, Dr Tevita Hala Palefau, Lisiate 'Aloveita 'Akolo, Kaitu'u Fotu & Mele 'Amanaki. These are but to name a few for the time-being.
What is now beimg closely watched are the candidates who have exceeded the TOP$10,000 spending limit. There are at least 4 in this category by the close of day (T).
As at day-break today (W), all election posters & sighns must be removed. No more electioneering is to take place. The international election officials & observers are certainly doing their level best to ensure Free & Fair elections.
The funeral of Fineasi Funaki at Vaini/Malapo LDS was really packed & well attended. He is being buried next to his home in Vaini. RIP.
Ofa pee e hoko hono omai e kakai koe ni ke tokoni kihe fakahoko lelei oe fili amanaki fakahoko....alu aa Fineasi pea kofee kii feituu oku ke nofo atu ai...kaikehe koe tenga tete too tete utu pee koia..ka lelei pee ete tengaa e lelei pee hono fua pea ka kovi pee ae ngaue tete kai pee a nunua...
MV 'Princess Ashika' court cases begin in the Supreme Court, Nuku'alofa. The court is now going through the pretrial phase of the 27 civil actions which have been filed in the Supreme Cort of Tonga. Who will bear the responsibility of the Government now that they will all be going home with their 6-figure pensions ? Will the Supreme Court order the seizure & forfeiture of assets both local & overseas on the filing of appropriate court applications ? Will the new Government be able to act straight away by the filing of 'Mareva' Injunctions and the immediate seizure & confiscation of assets & criminal prosecutions ? Choose your parliamentary reps wisely.... no room for a bunch of nerds or tame pussy-cats.
Candidates stuck-off : The Supreme Court (Justice Andrews) has reportedly struck-off one of the leading candidates for Tongatapu from the elections. What is now very interesting will be the 'political fall-out' and the succeeding court cases with one of the commercial banks in Nuku'alofa who had only moved against the Tongatapu
1 candidate on the 11th hour. Current Tongan case-law appears to favour the 'struck-off' candidate. The question of damages will be interesting. A second & third candidare from Tongatapu also faces similar fates at this very late hour. The resulting election petitions should be very interesting indeed.
The outer-islands electorates appear to be all ready to go. All electioneering ceased at 9 am today (W) as dictated by the Electoral Act. It is currently interesting to observe the International Election Observers & foreign TV & radio crews (Radio & TV NZ, Australian TV & Radio, Al Jazera (Malaysia), BBC etc...) are feasting on 'puaka tunu', water melons & lobsters in the Electoral Districks they visit. 'Akilisi Pohiva, 'Isileli Pulu & Clive Edwards are definitely the candidates to watch in Tongatapu. Sunia Fili appears from 'Eua and all the other TBU electorates are very very too close to call at this stage. The rains in Nuku'alofa has a 'dampening effect' in Nuku'alofa. Latest Current news from Nuku'alofa may be found on 'Facebook', 'BEBO', Tnews, and n related cyberspace news-sites.
Nuku'alofa, Chief Justice Michael Scott of Tonga has struck-off 2 Parliamentary Candidates in the last 30 hours in Nuku'alofa. Please ignore the reference to Andrew J.
A question that is now coming to the fore-front amongst voters in Tonga is how does the electorate handle the candidacy of persons who were in a decision-making capacity in the tragic 'Princess Ashika' case ?
What did Andrew J's report say about this ? Is this Report on-line now ? Why not ? The current foreign-correspondent reports are very very interesting.

Today in Nuku'alofa was raining but still very hot and sticky. Spending most of today with MP 'Akilisi Pohiva, he seems to be confident he will be re-elected in tomorrow. He also expressed to us that he is very confident 90% of his party will get in.
After discussing at a party meeting this evening, the 'Otumotuanga'ofa party is planning to celebrate the event with their families tomorrow as they wait for the results. A party is also organised to be held at "LIKU'ALOFA RESORT" on Friday night and is open to family, friends and supporters to join them and celebrate Tonga's first democratic election . With counting of the votes starting at round about 4.00pm, it is estimated that the election result will be completed by tomorrow night.
Thank you Enna for your contribution to the forum.

The observers are representatives from NZ and Australia including politicians. They were invited by the government of Tonga, and their role is to observe all aspects of the election impartially reporting back to their respective countries regarding the accuracy and fairness of the voting and counting process.
In an interview with TNEWS, both team leaders from the observers claimed they
were happy with what they had seen so far, and promised they would be thorough
with observing. They also claimed their report would include and outline any issues they deemed unfair to the election process.
Both team leaders made it quite clear they were there to observe only, and not to interfere with the process.

Malo Setita mo Enna G e ma'u ongoongo, koe 'aho fakahisitolia eni ki he fonua hono kotoa.
Election Day in Tonga is SOO quiet ! Everything in the elections appears to be going so well. Nevermind the talk of election petitions etc... We'll only cross that bridge when we get there. One police officer in Tonga is now being dealt with by the Police Commander for purported involvement in 'electioneering'. The operation of the 'just passed' (last session) Police Act (approx 200 sections) is now very interesting. The results of the Nobles Elections will be later announced (approx 4 pm) by the Chief Returning Officer at the Palace Office. The results of the elections for the Peoples Representatives should start coming in later this (Th) evening. It is bound to be VERY interesting ! Two Tonga Navy Fremantle Class patrol boats are currently in Ha'apai Lulunga & Mu'omu'a with the returning officers in those districts. It is very interesting to note how the role of some formerGovernment politicians in the sad case of the 'Ashika' is being 'down-played' by the media & in Tonga. The sight of the new idle ferry in Nuku'alofa Harbour is a constant reminder ! Sad.
Thnx Setita & Ennag for the info plz keep us update when available ...We all stand by for the nx good news.... malo malo e ngaue lahi.
