Fiji's interim Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, is calling on New Zealand to immediately end sanctions against his country.
Commodore Bainimarama, who is attending the Pacific Islands Forum leaders summit in Tonga, has pledged to hold elections in the first quarter of 2009.
New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark says she wants Fiji to produce a road map towards elections before New Zealand will review its so-called "smart" sanctions against Fiji's military and their families.
However, Commodore Bainimarama says Fiji has done everything it needs to do to prepare for an election. He says the last act was commissioning the Constituency Boundaries Commission a couple of days ago.
