Update: 10.45am THE Tongan government has apologised for difficulties faced by the media covering last week's Pacific Islands Forum leaders summit in Nuku'alofa.
Reporters had complained of heavy-handed treatment and unnecessarily strong restrictions in their access to the meeting.
In turn, Tongan officials have accused members of the media of being inappropriately dressed and rudely shouting questions to some of the leaders.

The Tongan government is defending itself against accusations of heavy-handed treatment of the news media covering last week's Pacific Islands Forum leaders summit in Nukualofa. Reporters have complained of being restricted in their access to the meeting while Tongan officials have accused the media of inappropriate attire and of acting rudely by shouting questions to some of the leaders.
