Tonga’s Legislative Assembly for 2007 and the 2005-2007 term was officially closed this morning, Thursday November 1st at the Queen Sālote Memorial Hall by HM King Siaosi Tupou V.

Primary school students lined the roadsides all the way from “The Villa” at Mataki’eua to the Memorial Hall where the closing ceremony was being held.

The 21 shots fired by the Tonga Defence Services at the Tonga High School rugby field indicated that His Majesty was on his way. The shots ended at 10.35 am with his arrival at the front entrance of the Memorial Hall (facing Mateialona Road).

After the national anthem by the Tonga Police Band, His Majesty entered the Hall and delivered the closing address.

Present at the closing ceremony were HRH Princess Sālote Mafile’o Pilolevu Tuita, Hon. Lupepau’u, Hon. Fanetupouvava’u, Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, some of the people’s representatives, members of the Diplomatic corp and hundreds of guests.

Only seven of the People’s Representatives were seen at the Memorial Hall for the closing ceremony this morning – but only two were inside the Hall, namely Mr. Sāmiu Vaipulu Vava’u Number 1 Representative and Mr. ‘Osai Lātū Ha’apai Number 2 Representative.

Five others were also seen to be present – but outside the Memorial Hall, included Tongatapu Numbers 1 and 2 Representatives Mr. ‘Akilisi Pōhiva and Mr. ‘Isileli Pulu; Ha’apai Number 1 Representative Mr. ‘Uliti Uata, Vava’u Number 2 Representive Mr. Vili Kaufusi Helu and Representative for the Niua Districts Mrs. Lepolo Taunisila. Absent from the ceremony were Tongatapu’s Number 3 Representative Mr. Clive Edwards and ‘Eua District’s Representative
