Sunday is a day of worship in the Kingdom, and Sunday 4th November will be no different, however congregations all over the Kingdom will have one prayer point in common – the Kingdom of Tonga.
King Siaosi Tupou I, Maker of Modern Tonga and nicknamed Lopaukamea or Lopa-'aione (Iron cable), enacted Tonga's Constitution on 4 November 1875
The Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Feleti Vaka’uta Sevele and His Majesty’s Government have made a special request to all church leaders and their respective congregations all over the Kingdom to uplift the nation in prayer during their services on Sunday 4th November.
November 4th is a long standing public holiday in the Kingdom and was known only as Constitution Day – the day that King Siaosi Tupou I enacted Tonga’s Constitution in 1875. Last year, Government designated November 4th as Tonga National Day, a day to celebrate the nation for its own sake.
Because the 4th of November falls on a Sabbath this year, the public holiday will be observed on Monday. However to commemorate the day, Government decided to call on the various denominations in the Kingdom to unite in prayer on Sunday.
