The Ministry of Health is grateful to the generosity of His Majesty, King George Tupou V in allowing his private airplane to transport three sick patients from the two Niuas to Vaiola Hospital in Tongatapu last Tuesday, Television Tonga reports.
The patients include two men and a woman.
The latest reports from Vaiola hospital have confirmed that one of the three has been discharged while two are still at Vaiola and both are in stable conditions. They are 16 year old ‘Alani Tonga from Niuafo’ou and Manu Afa from Niuatoputapu.
Dr. Sione Latu says ‘Alani Tonga suffered from a constant nosebleed which couldn’t be stopped, and Manu suffered a serious bout of pneumonia.
“The 16 year old boy from Niuafo’ou has a nosebleed and after examinations and many tests we found out he has a low blood count and needs blood transfusion. However this kind of treatment cannot be done in Niuafo’ou. Up to now we have been able to stop the nosebleed and have given him a blood transfusion. As for the case in Niuatoputapu, he has been receiving medication for the past two weeks as he is suffering from pneumonia. We suspect he has badly infected lungs,” said Dr. Latu.
Dr. Latu believes if this young man was brought in any later, he could have lost his life. At the moment, they have not confirmed when he will be discharged from hospital.
