Applications are invited from appropriately qualified and experienced persons for appointment to the
position of Police Commander, Ministry of Police for the Kingdom of Tonga.
The Police Force
The Ministry of Police, under the guidance and direction of the Minister, was established under the Police
Act. The Police Service fulfils a critical role in ensuring that law and order is maintained, crime is reduced,
and public safety is enhanced.
The Police Force comprises a number of core programs related to law enforcement and community service
through reduction of incidence and effects of crime, detection and apprehension of offenders, maintaining
law and order, and enhancement of public safety.
Key challenges during the short term focus on achieving improvement in levels of trust and confidence
through development of a policing style that enhances trust and confidence through improved relationships,
citizen involvement and engagement, transformational leadership, improved problem solving and
transparency and accountability.
