Saturday, 25 June continued continued :
The conference sessions for all overseas delegates was held last night at the Centenary Church. In the meantime a lot of delegates were at Fua'amotu at the prayer service for Prince Tungi's 21st Birthday at the Fua'amotu Royal Residence.

The birthday prayer was led by the President at 6.30 pm on an extremely rainy evening. He was assisted by Rev Mosese Vakasiuola (Fua'amotu), Rev Taniela Moala (Tatakamotonga) and other ministers from Mu'a, Navutoka & Fua'amotu (Tungi estates).

His Majest & the Tongan Royal family did all attend and so did His Highness Maletoa and ainga from Samoa.

It was an extremely wet but happy occassion with Tonga College (of which Tungi is an old boy) did provide all the shelters and students to help in ushering and all the duties of the day. Wine etc... had flowed freely and it was befitting of an extremely rainy day.

The main speech was by the Prince Tu'ipelehake and the Royal Toast was proposed by Hon Malupo.

The Samoan chiefs and tulafale had speeches and tau'olunga at Fua'amotu. There was a tafi from Fua'amotu to begin the entertainment programme and there were also taualunga from Samoa and from Princess Pilolevu's household. Princess Salote Maumautaimi & 'Etani took part in all these faiva.

The MC for the day was Mohulamu Fua'amotu.

The cake & koloa presentations were presented by Fuiva Kavaliku & otherr relatives of Tungi.

There was also a No'o 'anga by Navutoka.

At the conclusion of the ceremonies, HMQ did depart straight for Tupou College, Toloa where she & her entourage had spent the night before the cereminies of today at Tupou College.

The (Tonga College) occasion ended at about 10 pm.

Tupou College certainly has a lot to celebrate on its 125th Anniversary with the re-election of the President & General Secretary of the FWCT. Both are notable Toloa Old Boys in their own right.

The Conference did note that a lot of conference attendees from Australia and elsewhere are not able to attend the Conference due to the flight cancellations etc... due to the South American volcanic activity.

Although the results of the 2011 Tresidential & General Secretary Elections have been generally disseminated, the final vote counts were as follows and as submitted to and approved by His Majesty The King :

PRESIDENT : 1. Rev Dr 'Ahio -316 votes ; 2. Rev Dr Tevita K. Havea -26 ; 3. Rev Dr Siotame Havea -6 ; 4. Rev Dr Taliai Niumeitolu -2 ; 5. Rev.Dr. Mohenoa Puloka-1; 6. Rev.Lopiseni Vao-1.

GENERAL SECRETARY : 1. Rev Dr Tevita Koloa'ia Havea -301 ; 2. Rev.Dr.Siotame Havea-23 ; 3. Rev.Falematapule Lomu-5 : 4. Rev.Taliai Niumeitolu-4 : 5.Rev.Dr.Mohenoa Puloka-4 : 6. Rev.Tevita Haukinima-1 : 7. Rev.Samiu Molitika-1 : 8. Rev.Dr. Fisi'ihoi Mone-1 : 9. Rev. Viliami Petelo-1 : 10. Rev.'Opeti Fangupo-1 : 11. Rev. Lopiseni Vao-1.

The Chairman of the Elections Committee, Baron Fielakepa then declared the vote to the General Conference then they proceeded with Fotu (Leimatu'a) and Hon Dr Viliami Ta'u Tangi of Vao Nukonuka to present the election results to His Majesty, King George Tupou V.

;
Sunday, 26 June, 2011 :
The events of this weekend was full indeed & a financial success as the Tupou College Foundation Fund had collected T$1,200,000 yesterday at Toloa in memory of Taufa'ahau Tupou IV. The only Old Boys District to fully contribute its share was Australia who had also contributed to the Tupou College Chappel a magnificent Altar Table & its associated religious ornaments. It is the largest table of its kind in the South Pacific and it will be treasured by Tupou College for at least the next millenium.

In all, the Conference Day at Toloa was a memorable one & Her Majesty had alsmo overninghted there for the occasion. Conference had also collected T$100,100 for the Tongatapu District at this years Recreation Night. Many other such monetary assistance was rendered by Conference.

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS :
The sermon given by Bishop Barakana Havea on Conference Sunday (in the 'laying of hands') in the Tongan language was a Conference highlight as was the speech by Seneti (in Tongan).

Seneti is remembered at Nafualu by the 'Fafa 'o Seneti'. Both Barakana & Seneti's Tongan was fluent & perfect.

It is noted that the Conference has gone so well & effective that the entire AGENDA was completed by 10 pm this evening. The venue of next years conference is again Tongatapu although Ha'apai (per Semisi Tapu of Holopeka/Koula) did raise in plenary that the next Conference be in Ha'apai.

Conference plenary did again overwhelmingly opt for Tongatapu for 2012.

It is hoped that the continuous rains (for the past 3 days) will end today. Conference today said farewell to Rev Mosese Vakasiuola & Vai and also the FWCT Rev Sione Haisila Ta'ufo'ou from Texas & his wife.

Wednesday, 29 June, 2011 :
It was a fine day indeed for the end of Conference today with no rains or foul weather. To cut a long story short, perhaps the notable news from the FWCT Conference is the posting of Rev Lopini Filise from the FWCT Education Dept to Auckland, NZ and the posting of Rev 'Opeti Fangupo from Ha'afeva to Tongoleleka.. Rev Mosese Vakasiuola is also retired from the SUTT Auckland as he has reached retirement age (70). Rev Haisila of Texas has also retired at this conference having reached 70 as well.

As mentioned in the foregoing as well as on other sites, the presence of Janet Secomb and her grand-daugter was so welcome in Conference. The green lawn of Tupou College, Nafualu was named after the then President's young daudhter, Seneti, hence the 'Fala-'o-Seneti' had later married the President of the FWCT, the Rev Secomb.

Many at the recent Conference Day at Toloa, did not know the historical extent of Seneti's connection with Tupou College, dating way back to Nafualu. Heleni Taliai was also there on Conference Day at Toloa. She is also another daughter of a President who is immortalized at Toloa by the lawn 'Fala-'o-Seneti'.

The Tongan spoken by Seneti in full conference was so perfect as she had used old Tongan vocabulary after a 40 year absence, with such words as 'Fakana'una'u' etc... was just so amazing as was Rev Barakana Havea's Tongan.

Thursday, 30 June, 2011 2000 Hrs :
Conference Departures continues today with the departures of the ' 'Otumotuanga'ofa' and the 'Pulupaki' earlier today.

From all accounts the demobilization arrangements and procedures did go according to plan and credit does go to the administrative skills of the Gen Secretary (Dr Tevita Havea), Rev Tu'inauvai 'Asaeli, Faifekau Pule Tongatapu & Sione Tukia (Setuata Lahi, Vahe Tongatapu) and their respective teams.

The Conference decision to again hold the 2012 Conference in Tongatapu (ahead of a late bid from Ha'apai) was welcomed by most conference-delegates.

Friday, 01 June, 2011 :
Conference tidying-up continues today. The active role played by the Rev Dr 'Ahio in the Golden Jubilee Programs of the Tonga Broadcasting Commission despite an extremely busy final week in Conference is noted.

This link will be used to up-date Conference proceedings including those items which have not recieved public release to date.

Post-Conference Developments :

The Site Admin has decided to adopt a 'go slow' approach on this link. All new & further developments will be covered on the site under the 'Weekly Watch'.
Sunday, 02 July, 2011 :
Today was Radio Tonga Golden Jubilee Sunday at the Centenary Church in Nuku'alofa. It is a wet Sunday indeed with the winds & rain. It is understood that the service at the Centenary Church had only commenced at 1030 Hrs, a very unusual occurance as past Presidents have always insisted that 10 am is 10 am come what may especially for the Centenary Church.

It was a particularly long service due to the commemoration of the Radio & TV Tonga staff that have passed away in the first 50 years. There was a po hiva in the evening at the Centenary Church.

The records of the 88th Conference have been passed and sealed by the plenary but there were several issues of concern in the Conference & raised in the presence of the
President of the Uniting Church of Australia concerning homosexuality, adultery & fornivation in the Uniting Church and especially the Tongan parishes.

All in all, the Conference has been a success & demobilization is almost successfully completed. The 50th Anniversary of Tonga Broadcasting was successfully launched despite the rains.
Friday,12 August, 2011 0600 Hrs :

It certainly has been some time since this log was last up-dated & water has certainly passed under the bridge.

Church Conference season has certainly come & gone & positive developments have certainly been seen from all the church conferences of this year. It is best that this log would only be resuccitated when Conference does come around again. Maloo.
