Tonga is planning to establish High Commissions in New Zealand and Australia by the end of the year.
The nation's King George Tupou V officially opened the 2007 session of parliament on Thursday and announced the intention to establish the diplomatic postings in Wellington and Canberra.

Can someone put this man back on his chain and leash please!
If the king has "supposedly" given up his Absolute Rule, then what the hell is he doing spending more of the peoples money on high commissions where there is little or no value?
The same applies to the new appointed Law Lords including the appointment of the kings long term friend Ramsay Dalgetty- who was made to stand down from the high court due to incompetence!
All these Royal Appointments!!! Why??
I am assuming the king has made jobs for his friends as the high commisoners to NZ & Aust, as well as the Law Lords.
Note to the king: If you have relinquished your rule- THEN RELINQUISH IT!
STOP BURDONING THE PEOPLES TAXES BY GIVING YOUR FRIENDS POLITICAL/ROYAL APPOINTMENTS

Yes my friend, you are ASSUMING - and you're now crying about the Law Lords appointment and the NZ & AUS HC. Haven't you got anything positive to say about the PM and the government?
I am sorry, but I can not help you to overcome your dislike of the PM and the government, and I suggest that if you're not happy in the Kingdom, you're quite welcome to come and live with us here in the beautiful, and wonderful land of OZ! ThankU
If you are suggesting that my assumptions are incorrect, then please say that.
Otherwise, I will go on previous history whereby the king not only elects those in the parliament, and his ministers, but also continues to create jobs for his close supporters at the expense of the tax payers.
There is simply no rationale for Tonga to have embasies or high Commissions in your capital city.
Australia and NZ already have their presence in Tonga to facilitate the necessary aid projects and visa requirements for Tongans wanting to travel to those countries.
Since Tonga does not have any visa requirements to be met for prior travel into Tonga (from Australia or NZ) why do we need to spend millions of dollars each year for such a facility that we don't need?
And since Tonga does not provide aid, trade or services to Australia or NZ, then again I ask the simple question...WHY do we need to spend millions of dollars that we don't have on something we don't need?
I also ask the question regarding the recent appointment of the Law Lords. WHY appoint them? isn't the role of the parliament and parliamentary system- to create laws for Tonga? Isn't that the reason to have a parliament in the first place? Hasn't the king already appointed his ministers to make these laws? Does the king NOT trust those he has already appointed to power to create proper laws?
Where is the budget to pay for these new "Law Lords" Where is the budget to pay for the new embassies and their employees? What other public services will be cut to fund these new facilities of the king? Will our childrens schools not receive funding? Will the hospitals funding also be cut?
Rather than throw criticism at inquisitive thinking people like myself, how about you attempt to answer the questions that we raise?
That seems to be a problem within our culture isn't it? We were never encouraged to think or question the motives of our superiors.
Look where that has got us now!
Come on people. Dare to think! Dare to question. God gave us a brain to use, its about time that we used it!!

Criticism should be encouraged as I believe in free speech, but when someone like yourself comes out and criticised our beloved Monarchy, the Head Of Our beloved Country with disrespectful words like "Can Someone put this man back on his chain and leash please!" stirs furious emotions in the hearts of every Tongans. This disrespect attitude is disgraceful, and an insult to our culture and country. This is also a personal attack on the Tongan race. This kind of remarks from you stirs up patriotic emotions in people like myself who still remains fiercely proud of my Tongan heritage.
You claimed to be an inquisitive thinker, and I don't see any problem there, but your disrespectful approach is the problem. You said that "there is a problem with our culture in that we were never encouraged to think....." What another insult to the Tongan people, and I found the problem to be you as You appear to have a weakness in your character, and we have always been taught to think and we have been using our brains. For you to suggest that we are not using our brain is again an insult to the Tongan People.
On a comprising note, I must say that I tend to agree with your criticism of setting up the embassies in NZ and AUS for economic reasons, but the government must have a very good reason for the proposal which is not known to me and therefore will not elaborate on the issue any further.
Yes, people dare to think, dare to question, and God gave us our brain to be polite and respectful of our fellow beings, and not being rude and arrogant. ThankU

It is exactly what you have noted above that stirs patriotic Tongans into incensed violence like that of 16/11.
Yes, we show love and resect for our beloved king and the royal family, and in return we are robbed of our taxes and country. He places us, the commoners lower than others that migrate here. His comments on TV demean us, he tells the world that we urinate in elevators if we had the chance.
The PM and the king are making decisions that lack explanation and sound reasoning. They play favourites to friends and supporters as opposed to those that have the skills and qualifications. With such actions that we have discussed here, it is the PM & the king that treat us commoners as idiots and disrespect.
Why are we not permitted to know the reasoning for spending our taxes on embassies where they are not needed?
Why are we not permitted to know or have any input into the kings personal appointments of “Law Lords” when our system already has systems in place to provide for this? We are not permitted to know of the financial repercussions of these decisions.
Then we discover that there is no budget left for health, education, development or jobs…no money for anything…its been sucked up by the kings money vacuum.
It is these decisions and others like it that insult Tongans and make a mockery of our culture. The world already has made many disparaging remarks over us, and about the lifestyle of our king and the Royal family. So perhaps there is truth buried here?
The corruption of the royal family together with that of the PM have now raised a well of fire in my belly. This has caused me to question what is appears to be a lie, to seek what is hidden from view and to discover something that needs to be exposed. I want to be different and yes, because of you, I receive criticism. But hey, it’s that criticism that makes me a better person and spurs me on to look deeper and ask more questions.
Just remember- 150 years ago, if the missionaries never questioned our ancient pagan beliefs, we would never have found Jesus.

One is permitted to have furious emotions but they can be bridled and restraint. This human behaviour is what makes us human and must not be allowed to control our actions, and can not be an excuse to break the law as in the case of 16/11.
I have noted your views, and my concern is that you have made yourself the Judge and the Executioner here and this is very dangerous and unhealthy to your well beings.
All your allegations are nothing new to me or to the Tongan People or even the world. Corruptions have been a part of the fabrics of the Tongan culture, and I do acknowledged that this is indeed a serious problem, but still it is not an excuse for us to be disrespectful and arrogant to our King and government. Hopefully, this political reform will improve accountability and transparency in the government.
Criticism is very healthy and as I mentioned before, it must be constructive and done with mutual respect and especially in the context of our Tongan culture, and this is the reason for disagreeing with your approach.
I have noticed with great concerned that your criticisms have stirred fire in your belly(as you put it) and have caused you to hate the Sinner(PM, King, government, etc) rather than condemning the Sins. I believe that we can disagree and condemn others for their perceived transgressions, but can not hate them as this will affect our character and good judgement, and this is good advise.
Remember my friend, that our differences is not an excuse for us to be disrespectful and rude to each other or to anyone for this matter, and perhaps you will be more convincing if you adopt this approach. ThankU

Fakatafa, agree wholeheartedly !... please let the ignorant remain ignorant. What is important is for you is to inform and educate on the new Electoral and Constitutional Commission. According to the news by Kaafi Moala in the US, the changes will not affect " 'a e mafai fakamaau 'o e Tu'i ".... What does this mean ???
What you need to examine is the process and methodology instigated by the Commission to generate an appropriate political reform model ? The Secretariat for the Commission is the backbone of this, and who are they lining up for this. The process needs to be transparent in order to generate a model that is acceptable to the people !. If the PM has his own people lined up for the Secretariat, then I am not at all encouraged with the public excitment over the relinquish of power !... I could be wrong, but enlightened me please...

No aid money, but exchange of land for the premise in Australia. The exchange of land means that the Govenment of Australia will squeeze Tonga dry for land in Nuku'alofa to the equivalent to the site they take up in Canberra... I hear the Tonga High Commission is located in the dipcor area, which the up market area....
And NZ... same arrangement !...I do not envy those who take up the posting, they would die of over consumption and boredom, well off course, apart from the alcoholics and promiscious in Foreign Affairs!
