Contradictory statements are being made within the government about the health of the Tongan economy.
We read in the pacific magazine that the Reserve bank advised that inflation is now at 10.6%.
Generally 4% is considered high, so 10.6% is almost 3 times higher than what the inflation rate should be.
In stark contrast to the information provided by the Reserve bank, the Prime Minister tells a very different story.
The Tonga Review web site states that the PM's said on TV that the Tongan economy is in good shape.
We all know that the cost of living in Tonga is very high with the price of Sipi on some islands over $7.00 a kilo with a litre of petrol or diesel well over the $3.00 mark. Shoreline has recently increased its costs to the Tongan consumers by a massive and unjsutified 20%.
So if the PM thinks that this is good news, then I must wonder what is bad news then?
You can read each of the very differing reviews by clicking on each of the links below.
Or you can make up your own mind when you go to the falekoloa and buy a loaf of bread, a toilet roll and a kilo of Chicken and say goodbye to your $10.00.
The question remains, why does Sevele need to lie about the health of the economy on national TV?
