The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved an $US11 million grant for the reconstruction of Nuku'alofa.
Radio Tonga News reports the Tongan prime minister, Dr Feleti Sevele, made the announcement after attending an ADB meeting in Geneva.
Dr Sevele says the grant will go towards the maintenance of drainage and low lying areas, and road repairs.
Tonga has received more than $US100 million in grants since becoming a member of the ADB in 1972.
Most of downtown Nuku'alofa was destroyed in riots in November 2006.
