While Prime Minister John Key is concerned about the illegal sales of Tonga’s passport in the past, he is now urging Tonga to take action. Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pohiva states that it is not good, but he vows to clean up the mess that illegal sales created.
Pohiva said, thousands of passports were sold to foreigners in the 70s mainly Chinese, despite an ongoing investigation into the scandal. He went on to say that this is an ongoing problem in Tonga and it is an indication of corruption. Therefore, the matter has been passed on to the Police Commissioner and the Anti- Corruption Commission.
