In Breaking News, Tonga’s Prime Minister Hon. Samiuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva revealed to TNEWS that because Tonga is split on the issue of CEDAW, the people of Tonga will decide by way of referendum. “A referendum will be take place although it’s costly however, this is democracy” Pohiva said.
This decision came when two groups of people protested against the recent announcement that Tonga’s Government had accepted CEDAW’s proposal with 5 clauses in reservation.
Tonga’s PM was adamant the government didn’t do anything wrong, but if they did, they will certainly come to the people to apologise.
No date has yet been set for the referendum.
